BUILD MOMENTUM



Creating momentum in our life is a simple equation. We need to increase the things that move us forward and decrease the things that hold us back. It sounds simple enough, but we all know that in our crazy, busy lives, this isn’t always easy to achieve. 

So what is momentum? By nature, momentum requires a push upfront to get the ball rolling and it begins to grow from there. We build confidence and all of a sudden the impossible becomes achievable. Little accomplishments lead to bigger ones, small victories lead to large victories, momentum keeps building and achieving our goals and dreams comes within our reach.

However, a lot of times momentum tends to dwindle when we have to deal with challenges and setbacks and we need to rebuild our momentum by looking for another small victory or accomplishment. The most successful people in the world have learned to keep their momentum high and you can do the same. 

Here are our TOP 10 tips to create momentum and move towards the life you want to live.


#1 Create a Vision
In order to create momentum for your life and achieve success, you first need to create a clear vision of what success means to you, otherwise it will be impossible to get there. Take some time to figure out what success looks like for you on a daily basis as well as in the long-term. What is your heart’s desire? Where do your passions lie? What do you want to achieve in life? Write down your vision in clear and vivid colors and post it somewhere you can see it often. To manifest that vision take a few moments every single day to visualize your dream life and include your emotions and feelings, so your mind will believe it has already happened.

#2 Make a Plan
Once you created a clear vision for your dream life, you need to sit down and know exactly what is involved in achieving it. Break down your ultimate goal into smaller projects and capture everything that needs to be done. If need be, ask someone who has already achieved what you are trying to do and have him or her look at your list to see if you have missed something. Once you know what needs to be done, create an action plan to get it done and make sure that you have all the resources available you will need along the way.

#3 Take the First Step
Probably the most important step for creating momentum in your life is to take the first step and get your engine started. Yes, it is essential to have a vision and make a plan so you know in which direction to go, but those will do you no good if you don’t put them into action. Make sure you do something every single day that brings you closer to your dream life, even if it’s the tiniest step because once you start moving, momentum will start building and motivation will kick in. No matter what, do whatever it takes to take the first step, because that’s really all you need and the rest will follow.

#4 Start Your Day Strong
You may have heard it before, but reality is, you don’t need to be great to start, but you need to start to be great. Your starting point is extremely powerful, just like your first step and when you start your day strong and powerful, you will create the momentum to feel productive  and great for the rest of the day. Create a powerful morning routine that will build the momentum for the day. Meditate, work out, review your goals, write in your gratitude journal, read a book, listen to a podcast, visualize your day, have a healthy, well-balanced breakfast and make your bed before leaving the house. If you follow through and start your day strong, you will build momentum that will keep you going for the entire day.


#5 Take Breaks
While you need to start your day strong in order to build momentum, it is just as important to maintain your momentum throughout the day. Just think about driving your car all day without stopping for gas. What would happen? Your car would stop working without the fuel to keep going and the same thing will happen to you if you don’t take regular breaks and recharge your batteries from time to time. This is why we need lunch and several smaller breaks throughout the day. Schedule times to refuel and make sure that the time is filled with fun and relaxation. Your brain will be ever so grateful and willing to work even harder.

#6 Ask for Help
Our Ego can be one of the biggest obstacles that blocks our momentum. It’s a fact of life that no matter what we are trying to do, at some point or another we will face some challenges and problems. If our Ego stops us from asking for help, we may have to deal with a problem a lot longer than necessary. Don’t be too proud to ask for help when you need to solve  a problem. Sure, try to figure it our on your own first, but once you realize that you aren’t getting anywhere, put your ego aside and ask for help. Remember, the quicker you can solve a problem, the faster you can build momentum again.

#7 Get Fired Up
If you want to build momentum, you first must get fired up, get motivated, passionate, inspired and powerful. Take the time to identify what drives you, what makes you motivated and what makes you put in the work to achieve your goals and dreams. And then figure out how you can get yourself fired up and into peak state. Whether that’s through motivational books and articles, inspirational videos, learning about other people’s successes, visualization, affirmation, goal review, the list is endless. But make it a point to do something every single day that will reignite the fire in you.

#8 Disconnect
While disconnecting may sound counter-intuitive to you when you want to build momentum, stepping away from your daily routine gives you the space and time to gain new clarity and be more productive in the long-term. Let your mind relax and make space to reflect and process. Turn off your phone, shut down your laptop and get outside to a nearby park or beach to declutter your headspace. Meditate, journal or simply sit and observe your environment and give your mind a break to be able to come up with new ideas and energy.

#9 Commit to Self-Improvement
No matter how busy you are, you can always find 10 to 15 minutes each day to take the time to improve yourself. Whether you use that time to read, meditate or do yoga, commit to learning 10 new words in a different language, read an article on a subject that sparks your interest, practice the piano or do one of a million other things that are available to you. Make it a point to constantly develop yourself physically, mentally and emotionally.

#10 Don’t Be Afraid to Re-Start
Of course, a complete re-start can be scary, but keep in mind, it’s those full-fledged second chances that end up bringing immense breakthroughs in your life. Keep in mind, when you get scared to initiate a re-start, that fear won’t go away as dramatic changes always come with fear, doubt, uncertainty and worry. Accept this reality and embrace the struggle. Expect that there will be hardship, but decide to do it anyways, because this is an opportunity to learn and grow and show the world that you have what it takes to make your dreams come true. Step outside your comfort zone, because that’s where magic happens.

Once you learn how to build momentum and keep it going, you will become unstoppable and it’s only a matter of time before you reach your goals and dreams. Ultimately, you have to just take the first step, start small and grow from there and the impossible will become possible.
