Whether we are kids or adults, we hear it all the time… ‘Do your best!’ or ‘Be the best you can be!’ But what does that actually look like? What does it mean on a day-to-day basis? We live in a world where standards are constantly rising, everything becomes more competitive and more complex and if we aren’t doing our best, it can easily feel like we could get left behind.

But, being the best version of ourselves shouldn’t feel like a burden, it should be an amazing opportunity and it should definitely be fun. Because isn’t it our ultimate goal to become the best we can be and create the life we want to live?

While we all want to be the best version of ourselves, very few actually follow through. We tend to be our own worst enemies and when it comes to chasing our dreams, achieving success and living a life full of passion and purpose, a lot of us are self-destructive without even being aware of it.

#1 Own Yourself
Before you become the best version of yourself you need to know who you are and who you want to become. On top of that you have to believe that becoming your best self is in your complete control. But before you can start your journey to becoming better you have to own who you are right now. Own what you have been doing up to this point. Be honest and be real. It has been you who got you to where you are right now and it’s you who will get you to where you want to go. You are in charge of your life, even on days when it doesn’t feel like it. 

#2 Learn
On your path to becoming the best version of yourself, you need to take a first step and that’s asking yourself the question: What is one thing I could learn today that would have a dramatic effect on my life. What is it that is going to take me to the next level? Do you need to become a better communicator? Do you need to work on your time management skills? Do you need to work on your emotional intelligence? Do you need to pick up a specific skill like video editing? Nobody knows the answer to those questions, but you. Identify the one thing that you can learn that will impact your life, your work and your relationships and then go out and learn it.

#3 Move and Push
While it is important to own yourself and figure out where you want to improve, analyzing and reflection will only take you so far and overthinking will only paralyze you. Don’t worry about what other people might think, don’t worry about whether or not you are going to fail or how difficult the path will be. Once you realize where you need to improve it’s time to move into action. Gather all your courage, consistency and creativity and move forward. Pay attention, adjust your path and move forward again. Determine how it will feel when you are your best self and why you will absolutely enjoy your best version. If you want to be successful in improving yourself and becoming the best version of yourself, you have to identify your inspiration of why you want to embark on this journey in the first place. Write down three active words or phrases that will describe your best version and make that your daily mantra. And whenever you encounter an obstacle, you won’t get sidetracked because you know the motivation behind your journey.

#9 Create Habits that Mirror Your Ideal Life
When you think of your best self, what are your positive daily habits going to look like? And if you don’t already follow those habits, consider incorporating these positive habits into your daily life right now to reach your highest potential. Examples could be that you only speak well of others, you treat yourself with kindness, you choose food that nourishes your body, exercise regularly and lower your stress. The more you incorporate the daily habits of your best self already into your life right now, the easier it will be to become the best version of yourself.

#10 Let Go of Fear
Whether it’s fear of failure or fear of success, fear is paralyzing and will stop us in our tracks before we even get started. Keep in mind, failure is a natural part of life and the most successful people in life – think Bill Gates, Michael Jordan or Richard Branson – all have failed at some point before they reached their huge success. We need failure, because it gives us valuable insights that drive us forward to reach our goals. On the other hand, people are also afraid of success, whether they fear that they will lose their identity when they succeed or they are afraid of the added responsibility or they are afraid that they won’t be able to handle success well and fear the raised expectations. But keep in  mind, success is a great thing and everybody deserves to live out their dreams. Remember who you are and stay authentic and with that you will be comfortable with every decision you make along the way.

Keep in mind, it’s never too late to become the best version of yourself. And while you may not always get it right, if you stay focused, make the right choices and stay on your path, you will be able to live your ideal life and achieve your desired outcomes.
