IMPORTANT THINGS IN LIFE

What is the key to inner peace and happiness?

It may be a lot simpler than we think. We recently came across this amazing three-minute video, that reminded us to show up and follow our heart, to find a new perspective and have a sense of wonder, to find people we love, to set goals and help others. A reminder to pamper ourselves and face our fears, to exercise and get in touch with nature, to lighten up and make sure to get a good night’s sleep, to not compare ourselves with others and definitely not beat ourselves up, to be open to new ideas and not focus on negative thoughts, to focus on creating what we desire and make time to have fun, not forgetting to keep romance in our life, to continue with our gratitude practice, to want what we have and to be true to ourselves.

If there ever was a recipe for happiness, this video definitely touches all the bases to cultivate a more fulfilling and meaningful life. It perfectly illustrates just how simple it can be to create more happiness if we open our hearts and our minds to embracing the things that are truly important in life.

What are the most important things in your life?

We all go through life differently, but what we all have in common is our desire to move towards happiness. While we all keep moving and are busy all day long, the question is, are we moving in the right direction? We can’t always know what’s right, but it may be helpful to spend some time to contemplate our direction. Look inside to better understand yourself and try to figure out what you want out of life.

As we said, everybody is different, but we believe that there are some things that are probably very important for all of us. Here are our TOP 10 most important things in life.

#1 Being Alive
Be grateful that you woke up this morning! We don’t want to be morbid or make you depressed, but thousands of people didn’t wake up today and from those who did, thousands won’t survive the day. So remind yourself that you’ve hit the jackpot. You are alive. Take the opportunity that life gives you and be grateful. There is always someone or something to be grateful for, if you take a moment to stop.

#2 Take Care of Your Health
If you don’t take care of your health, you reduce the time you have on this planet and also the capacity to live the life you want. We’re not saying that life can’t be good if you have some health challenges, but if you want to live a long life with a body and mind that can take you where you want to go, you must take care of your health. Most of the time we take our health for granted and only start to realize the importance of our health when it is gone. The good thing is that we have the ability to influence our health and it’s a lot easier than you think.

#3 Take Chances
It’s all about experiences in life and if there is something you want to experience and it’s high risk, remember that this also means that it will give you a high reward. Take every chance that is presented to you. Failure feels awful and rejection feels terrible, but you know what feels even worse? Regret. Don’t pass on something and then be disappointed that the train left the station without you. Words left unspoken, a dream, a guy, a girl… Erase the possibility of having regrets down the line and take a chance on life. At least you’ll know if it was meant to be or not.

#4 Stop Comparing
We’ve mentioned this in previous blogs, but it is detrimental to your happiness and inner peace to stop comparing yourself to others. Instead of envying other people’s success and wondering why you aren’t in their position, use the time productively and pursue whatever it is that makes you happy. There is always someone doing better than you and there is always someone doing worse. Don’t concern yourself with everyone else. Focus on yourself!

#5 Invest in Relationships
It is a well understood fact that family and friends are some of the most important things in life. So why aren’t we investing more time in our relationships to make them grow and flourish? We take the people in our life for granted rather than making sure we spend quality time with those we love the most. Really be present when you are together and show your love and appreciation as much as you can.

#6 Stop Judging
It’s easy to have preconceived notions and make assumptions, but don’t confuse your opinion with the facts. Stop judging, condemning or labeling others, you’ll never exactly know what their path is, so accept others and be more tolerant. The same goes for yourself. Stop judging yourself and accept yourself as you are, strive to grow, but eliminate judgment from your life.

#7 Establish a Positive Self-View
Our life is built on how we view ourselves. If we don’t have a positive self-view, we typically feel insecure about ourselves, are extremely sensitive to the opinion of others and compare ourselves to other people. We also tend to make decisions based on other people’s expectations rather than on what truly feels right for us. However, if we do have a positive self-view, we accept ourselves for who we are and believe in ourselves. We have the courage to make our own decisions and live life in a way that is right for us. This is a process that we have to continually work on and there are always areas in our life that can improve and grow, but it is essential to put in the work and establish a positive self-view that is strong enough to be able to understand and accept ourselves.

#8 Live Your Values, Dreams and Purpose
If you are looking to live your values, dreams and purpose, you first need to reflect on what kind of person you want to be and what you want out of life. You really need to look inside and understand yourself first, to be able to understand your purpose, define your values and figure out your dreams. Once you do have that understanding, go out and live the ‘you’ that’s in you.

#9 Give/Help Others
If you have the opportunity to share what you have with others, don’t ever pass up on it. There is tremendous power in helping others. Demonstrate the highest standards for yourself and stay dedicated to helping and giving to others.

#10 Love
The most powerful force in life is love. Love boosts your happiness and is one of the strongest predictors of health. When we are in love, we release oxytocin – the ‘love hormone’ that has a huge effect on how we think and behave – and dopamine – which creates a sense of pleasure within ourselves. Love makes you want to be the best version of yourself and you go more confidently through life. Remember the last time you fell in love… It makes you wake up in the morning and jump out of bed because you want to say hello to world. There are many kinds of love, make sure you start by loving yourself.

Improving any of these areas, will not only have an impact on that area, but will hugely improve your life in general. If you are ready to go beyond knowing what’s truly important in life, it’s time to start taking action. Begin living the most important things in life and you will see that they really are the key to inner peace and happiness.
