Can you be content with yourself right now and still want to strive to be more at the same time?

Many believe that being happy with who you are right now means that we no longer need to improve ourselves, while striving for more means that we aren’t happy with ourselves. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Being content and happy does not mean we stop improving.

We live in an ever-changing world and are constantly learning, so we are always improving, growing and changing. Reality is you can be content with yourself AND strive to improve yourself at the same time.

We hear it all the time… ‘Be the best you can be’. Technology, business, medical research among many other areas are constantly innovating in this world where standards are rising and everything gets a lot more competitive and complex, so why not follow their lead and work on our own personal innovation.

Creating the life you want and becoming the best version of yourself is the ultimate goal. However, some people may see this as a heavy burden and feel like they can be left behind if they can’t keep up. See it from a different point of view. See it as the amazing opportunity you have to live your life to your fullest potential and make reaching for the stars a fun and exciting journey.

Yes, it may take a bit of work and persistence, but continual self-improvement is what keeps us alive and makes us strong and the kind of person we want to be.

So how do we become the best version of ourselves? Here are our TOP 10 ways to help you reach your ultimate goal.

#1 Own It
Do you know who you are? Do you know who you want to become? You have to take control over your life, be real and dig deep to explore yourself and then own who are you. Remind yourself that you are in charge and you can take your life anywhere you want to go. But you need to know what your starting point is first and own it.

#2 Learn and Grow
What is one thing that you could learn how to do that would change your life for the better. Whether that’s in your professional life or in your personal life, identify that one thing that would have a huge, positive impact and go ahead and learn it. Nothing is more satisfying than learning a new skill and seeing how it positively changes your life. Keep learning, keep growing, keep seeking new information, keep searching for new ideas. However small, as long as you keep learning, you are moving in the right direction.

#3 Stop Should-ing
Shoulda, woulda, coulda… Forget those words. Stop thinking about what should have happened or what could have happened. Fact is, whatever happened in the past is in the past. There is no point in rehashing it. This is a new you. Live in the present moment and take control of the life you dream of. Stop should-ing as well… Should I go to the gym tomorrow? Should I apply for my dream job? How about confidently affirming to yourself: I am going to the gym tomorrow. I am applying for my dream job right now. It’s your life. Take charge and steer it in the positive direction you want.

#4 Exercise
It doesn’t matter if you work out to lose weight or improve your health. Bottom line is that our bodies are made to move and if you hate exercise, you just haven’t found the perfect workout for you, yet. We know that working out leads to the release of endorphins and the after-math of having completed a great workout is gratification and the feeling of achievement. So go out there and find the exercise that makes you stick to it. Yoga, dancing, running, swimming, cycling, boxing, pilates, group fitness… The list goes on and don’t use the excuse that there aren’t enough hours in the day. You will always find a way, if it’s important to you.

#5 Stay Excited
When you are working on yourself, you will get discouraged at times and sometimes you may even feel like quitting. The important thing is to get really excited about what you are doing. Remind yourself that you are on the most exciting adventure in your life… Discover what you are capable of and bring out your very best. What could be more exciting than your journey to personal innovation.

#6 Explore
What’s the latest trip you took? And we are not just talking about a vacation to Bali. How about a trip within yourself. It is in our human nature to create habits and routines and those can take over our life. So it’s time to explore new ways of looking at the world, develop a new perspective, discover new interests, go to new places, and meet new people. It’s very hard to know where we want to go in life and what the best version of ourself can be, if we haven’t explored what potential lies within us. Get out of your comfort zone, explore new things, break your routine. The next time an opportunity comes up, go for it. You’ll be amazed what you will discover about yourself.

#7 Love Yourself
We know we all can be hyper critical and go down hard on ourselves sometimes. How about changing your tune and take a second to tell yourself: I love you! How does that feel? Remember, none of us is perfect and we’ll never be, but instead of beating ourselves up over a mistake that happened, lift yourself up. You are on the road to personal innovation, congratulate yourself for striving to be the best version of yourself. Love yourself for taking positive steps forward. Love yourself, period.

#8 Take Risks
When was the last time you did something that scared you? And it doesn’t have to be anything big. Maybe it’s as simple as making that phone call you’ve been putting off for days. Maybe it’s finally looking into a career change. Maybe it’s signing up for a class to learn a new skill. Maybe it’s finally letting go of your worries about what other people think of you. Whatever it is that you want to do and so far were afraid to do it, follow Nike’s way of thinking: Just Do It! Believe in yourself, take the risk and know that you’ll be able to figure it out.

#9 Mediate
We know starting to meditate can be challenging and if you aren’t meditating, yet, know that we aren’t asking you to light some incense and sit in Lotus for half an hour waiting to reach enlightenment. Start small. Find your favorite spot at home, in the park, on the beach… anywhere where you are completely comfortable and close your eyes for just a few minutes. Just focus on your breath and if you get bored after five minutes, that’s ok. Stop and remember to do it again tomorrow. You’ll be amazed how relaxed you will be. Listen to what’s happening inside yourself. Become familiar with the emotions, feelings and thoughts that come up when you sit still or lie down. Just observe and familiarize yourself without judgment. And then do it again tomorrow.

#10 Visualize Your Happiness
Manifest your destiny and visualize your happiness. Remember that you have the power to do whatever you want with your life. You can achieve anything if you put your mind to it and have a healthy attitude. Leave judgment and negativity behind and fill your mind with positivity and openness. Sure there will be bumps in the road and some challenges along the way, but you know that you can handle anything that comes your way. Incorporate positive visualization into your daily routine and rewire your brain so you will believe that you can achieve reaching your goals and dreams and become the best version of yourself.

Take on the challenge and embark on the road to self-discovery. If you are working on becoming the best, most authentic version of yourself, you will feel a lot more comfortable in your own skin, you’ll reduce stress and anxiety and ultimately you will be a lot happier. We all love a great adventure. Striving to be the best version of yourself is the most exciting adventure you will ever embark on and you’ll be amazed what you will discover, create and be able to achieve. All you have to do is start…
